CTC Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill

Wednesday, July 26, 9:00am - 4:00pm
On the day before the CTCNet Conference officially opens, CTCNet will host a capacity-building session on the Hill. The session will train CTC staff in best practices and talking points to inform legislators about CTC work and our impact nationally through the CTC Network. Attendees will attend this training on the Hill and then go on to meet individually with their Representatives’ offices. The training will be held in the morning (9am-11am). CTCNet members will schedule visits with their Representatives' offices later in the afternoon. (Congress will be in session on that day and through July 28th.)

Opening Plenary

Welcome and keynote address from Ami Dar (pictured at right), Founder and Executive Director of Action Without Borders, the organization that maintains Idealist.org. Built in 1996 with $3,500, Idealist has become one of the most popular nonprofit resources on the Web, with information posted by 58,000 organizations around the world, and over 40,000 visitors every day.

Feature Panels

Thursday, July 27, 1:30pm - 3:00pm
This year ’s conference will feature three panels highlighting topics of national importance to CTCs.  Hear from leaders representing different sectors including CTCs, government, foundation and industry as they present on the issues and discuss the role of CTCs.

Half-Day Workshops

These are 3 hour sessions for up to 25 participants, designed as an in-depth professional development opportunity.  Offered at a low additional fee, attendees must pre-register to attend.

CTC Resource Center Share Fair

CTCNet Members and Resource Center Peer Experts share best practices in technology, CTC operations, programs, assistive technology and more.  The event will include share fair tables and technology demonstrations in the computer lab.  ATA will highlight the Accessibility Resource Center, a collaboration with Alliance for Technology Access. CTC Site Visits: District of Columbia

The local host committee welcomes participants to Washington, DC with visits to four DC based member sites.  Don't miss this opportunity to check out some of the exciting CTC programs here in the nation’s capitol!

Youth Visions Film Festival

Join 10 of CTCNet's Youth Visions for Stronger Neighborhoods grantees as they present their short, student-created films that explore community issues of importance to youth.  The showcase is being sponsored by Adobe Systems, Inc.

Leadership Luncheon

The 2006 Leadership Luncheon is a celebration of leadership in the community technology field. The event will include a keynote address from Kojo Nnamdi, host of The Kojo Nnamdi Show, a live public radio program produced by WAMU 88.5 FM.  Kojo hosts Tech Tuesday, a weekly show puts technology in context by assessing its relevance in real life.
The luncheon will also include a presentation of CTCNet’s founders award, the 2006 Toni Stone Innovative Initiative Award.

Youth Media Coverage

A youth video journalism team, led by Richard Jaeggi and Sean Dougherty will produce a video journalism project during this year’s conference.  These CTC leaders will work with a group of youth to capture highlights of the conference. The video journalism team will produce a video of highlights to present at the Saturday Leadership Luncheon.

Networking Sessions (2)

Specially planned sessions with activities to help attendees network and learn from each other. One will be organized to connect new attendees with veteran attendees -- and the other to organize regional groups.
